Our History
Strength. Beauty. Purpose.
In 40 BCE, the Roman architect Vitruvius wrote that structures should have three attributes: finnitas, venustas, and utilitas. The Romans inherited these three attributes from Greek construction projects centuries before. Many of the greatest construction projects in history, still standing, functional and beautiful today, are based on the three principles and we make sure the same three attributes are included in everything we do at DreamScapes. We work them into our project and maintenance plans, our craftsmen are thinking these three words when they are working, and you will see these three attributes in our finished designs and projects; it is our ability to do all three very well that separates our work from others. These three words are strength, beauty, and purpose. The Romans literally wrote the book on architecture in 40 BCE. It basically said that you should always consider these three elements when designing any project: Strength, Beauty, and Purpose. This theory has been tested for over 2,000 years, and we find that it still holds true today. I think that considering these 3 elements in everything we do from the beginning is why we have so many loyal clients.
A few paragraphs about me, Richard W Allen , so you know more about me and my philosophy about Design build and Care of landscapes.
My Grandfather was my idol growing up. He built the best Custom Homes in Ringgold, GA, and I followed him around to his custom homes, learning so much from him. I would go visit him quite a bit since it was only about an hour from my house. I remember from around age 6 when going to visit, he started taking me to houses in a certain phase of the building process; sometimes just red dirt with footers being dug to all phases of construction. Grandpa would tell me each time about the work being done at that phase. One time it would be a footer, the next floor and then walls.
Being able to visit the job sites, I was able to hear about the processes and the best ways to do things each time. Hearing Grandpa talk about how everyone in town would send him customers because he always built better than expected -not the biggest, just the best really stuck with me. This taught me a lot about quality, the methods of how and why, and instilled in me to always work hard to be the best at what I do. Build for Strength using the best materials and methods. It’s all about making things and dreams that last a lifetime.
Passion and Creativity - I like to think this came from my grandmother and my love of nature.
Growing up I would always look out the window at lawns, the ones that I liked best, and I would figure out what made them look so good and how do I could achieve that look. Then I would practice on my parents’ yard and years later I was able to start a business mowing and maintaining lawns professionally.
Maintenance of properties and my passion is what really took my design skills to the next level. I also learned a lot from some of the homeowners I maintained. One property I maintained had a very nice garden that was in Southern Living magazine several times; when I would see the owner we would talk about the garden and my different landscapes and designs. Through these talks I learned a lot about not just color, but something bigger, designing using TEXTURES – learning about designing with texture really opened my eyes and took my Designs to a higher level of beautiful landscapes above most landscape companies around me. I continue to strive to be the best by reading, visiting gardens, and continuing to talk with others who I respect in the industry.
I learned so much from my grandfather about Quality (Strength), my customers and curiousness taught me Beauty, my passion taught me Design.
When researching the right person to Design your Dreamscape, you should interview several people after checking reviews and past customer experiences, so you are able to pick the one that best fits your style and meets the mark.
Dreamscapes has been designing great custom landscapes that are unique for over 25 years. I have been in construction and landscaping for over 40 years. My expertise in my craft comes from my love of landscapes and nature and was learned through my passion for the art of landscape. The art in landscaping is more than just plants; it is healthy soil shaped to the desired contours that fit the surrounding natural terrain and then using the right plants to accent that shape. Tilling and amending our beds provides a great place for your investment to grow.
We also have a customer relations process to aid in making sure we are the right fit for each other. This starts with education of our processes.
Our philosophy
Look at all parts of the property including the home, natural terrain, and the features of the home to create a unique landscape. We also look at the home to fit in with the style of landscape we are designing as well as the scale of some features of the home, making suggestions and explain the ideas to the client along the way.Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me! I think this will really help you in your search for the right person to craft your dreams.
